Students over the age of ten who are currently enrolled in Danceworks classes have the option of joining our Youth Performance Company, recently renamed "The Moving Company". The company provides dancers with extra performance opportunities at venues such as the Denville Open House, Six Flags Great Adventure, and a variety of other sites such as retirement communities, schools and YMCA's. |

The Danceworks Youth Performance Company was established at Danceworks in June of 2004 in order to provide students of dance who were interested in pursuing the art form at a more serious level with both an opportunity to improve their dance skills, and an experience that would parallel that of other junior dance troupes. More specifically, participants receive exposure to unique choreography, invaluable performance experience, and the values of teamwork. |

A fundamental aspect of the company is performance, the aim of which is not only to buttress the growth and development of the dancers, but to spread the joy of dance to a variety of audiences throughout Morris County . With an extensive performance schedule averaging 6-8 out-of-house events per season, the youth company brings dance to audiences that span generations and social strata; performances have been given at YMCAs, nursing homes and retirement communities, public schools, churches, and nonprofit organizations. Most significantly, members of the youth company worked as a group to sponsor their own benefit performance in order to provide relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. This event, Kids For Katrina: An Evening of Song and Dance, took place on November 22, 2005 at the Baker Ballroom in Dover , New Jersey . Approximately 500 people were in attendance at this event, and $3,500 was raised and contributed to the Red Cross relief fund. |
